What car insurance coverage do I need?
How the checklist works
- Liability is the only coverage Texas law requires: at least 30/60/25 (Transportation Code 601.072). It pays for harm you cause to others, never your own car.
- PIP and uninsured motorist coverage come with every Texas policy unless you reject them in writing (Insurance Code 1952.152 and 1952.101).
- Collision and comprehensive pay to fix or replace your own car. Lenders usually require them; otherwise, it depends on what your car is worth to you.
- Gap, rental and roadside are optional add-ons. Whether they are worth it depends on your loan, your routine and what you already have.

Questions
What car insurance is required in Texas?
Liability coverage of at least 30/60/25: $30,000 per injured person, $60,000 per crash for injuries, and $25,000 for property damage. PIP and uninsured motorist coverage are included unless you reject them in writing.
Do I need full coverage on a paid-off car?
Texas law does not require collision or comprehensive. It is worth comparing if you could not easily repair or replace the car yourself. Lenders and leasing companies usually require it until a car is paid off.
Does this quiz save or send my answers?
No. The checklist is worked out by code running in your browser. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, and nothing is saved.
